Slicker Recycling Earns Accreditation as a Living Wage Employer

Slicker Recycling, a leading environmental services and waste management company is delighted to announce its accreditation as a Living Wage Employer by the Living Wage Foundation. This prestigious recognition highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to paying its employees a wage that truly reflects the cost of living and ensures that all workers can meet their everyday needs.

Headquartered in Stourport-on-Severn in the West Midlands—a region where 14.2% of workers earn less than what's needed to make ends meet, and about 334,000 jobs pay below the real Living Wage—Slicker Recycling stands out by committing to pay the real Living Wage, ensuring fair compensation for a hard day's work.

The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 460,000 people and put £3 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

Supporting Employees and Communities

Slicker’s commitment to the Living Wage aligns with a broader vision of sustainability which encompasses, not just environmental stewardship, but also the well-being of its people and the communities it serves. By offering wages that exceed both the government’s minimum and the National Living Wage, Slicker ensures all employees, whether permanent or contracted, are fairly compensated for their hard work

"At Slicker Recycling, we believe that taking care of our people is fundamental to our success," said Laura Baulk, Head of HR "By becoming a Living Wage Employer, we are proud to lead by example and contribute to a culture of respect, fairness, and inclusion. Our colleagues work hard to support our mission of creating a cleaner, greener world, and we are committed to supporting them in return."

Slicker's accreditation as a Living Wage Employer is a key component of its broader sustainability strategy, which emphasizes ethical business practices, environmental initiatives, and community support. As a leader in waste oil collections and hazardous waste management, the company is committed to improving working conditions across the sector, recognising that paying a real Living Wage is crucial for long-term sustainability. This recognition follows closely on the heels of Slicker Recycling's recent achievement of the prestigious 2024 King’s Award for Enterprise, which highlights their exceptional business acumen and dedication to sustainable practices.

The Living Wage Foundation commended Slicker Recycling for its leadership and commitment to responsible business practices.

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Slicker Recycling has joined the movement of over 14,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.

“They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as Burberry, Barclays, Everton Football Club and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like Slicker Recycling, believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay."
