Interceptor & Drainage Services FAQs

Interceptor & Drainage Services FAQs

It can be easy to forget what is below our feet however, it is important that businesses stay on top of the servicing and maintenance of their Interceptor and drainage systems.

Below is a list of frequently asked questions we often receive from customers:

What is an interceptor?

Drainage interceptors are tanks designed to block and trap harmful contaminants, such as fuels and oils, from entering water courses.

How often should I have my interceptor serviced?

This depends on how busy your site is, however as a rule of thumb we would recommend businesses have their interceptors cleared every 3-12 months with a full inspection every 12 months depending on the size or use of the interceptor.

What Interceptor Maintenance & Drainage Cleaning Services do Slicker offer?

Slicker offer a range of services including, wash pit and interceptor clearing, filter changes, CCTV surveys & drain mapping, wastewater pump maintenance, tank cleaning & decommissioning, and many more.

Can I arrange a scheduled service?

Yes, one of our expert teams will phone you to gather relevant information such as the size and function of the site and details of the assets to be maintained. Using this information, we will establish a servicing schedule to meet your requirements.

How can we prevent blockages from happening?

Blockages in drains can be caused by numerous factors. Avoid pouring/flushing insoluble products down the drain such as wet wipes, fats, and greases.

Are there any services Slicker can’t provide?

No, at Slicker we strive to find a solution to every interceptor or drainage problem you may have.

Why should we have an interceptor integrity test?

It is important that interceptors are periodically examined to ensure they are in working order. Our technical teams inspect the structural integrity of interceptors to ensure there are no defects. They will ensure that all aspects of the interceptor, including baffle walls and filters, are operating as they should. Guidelines state that this should take place every 5 years.

Can you provide us with a map of our drainage system?

Yes, we can! Using our fibre optic CCTV camera technology and Sonde, we can provide you with a full site survey of your drainage system, highlighting the flow direction and key features such as manhole covers, interceptors, and aco channels.

Will you provide us with the legal paperwork?

Yes, we will provide you with all the necessary paperwork as evidence that your interceptors/drainage systems are fully serviced and that the waste produced is disposed of correctly.

Can you carry out any repairs to my drainage system?

Yes, our technical services division can repair or replace surface water drains and manhole covers and carry out patch repairs or relining of underground drains.
